From the Manufacturer
MBT shoes are physiological footwear--the first footwear that has a positive effect on the entire body. MBT stands for "Masai Barefoot Technology." Their innovative design includes a multi-layered, curved sole which makes for a unique and rewarding walking experience. The key to MBT is its patented sole structure. The shank, PU midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body. Wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you’re walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles. Wearing MBT shoes can also be a therapeutic tool for back, hip, leg and foot problems. At MBT they don't believe in shoes. They believe in footwear that makes you better from the ground up.

Please be sure that you have no knee problems before purchasing these shoes. I never even knew I had a knee problem aside from some occasional soreness of the left knee. These shoes were professionally fitted at a store catering to medical professionals and athletes. They were very comfortable at first but soon I developed knee pain in the left knee which progressed in severity until I was unable to walk with out severe knee pain and my wife and others could hear my knee grind even outside when I walked. When it finally dawned that it could be the shoes I had worn them for 6 months. I switched to a Rockport Prowalker and cushioned running shoes and the majority of the pain resolved over 6-8 weeks. About a year after I first started wearing these shoes the pain is about to baseline with increase in pain if I am on my feet for long periods of time. I am a doctor and purchased the shoes to help in this regard since I work 14 hours on my feet on hard floors.
I would never recommend this type of shoe to anyone but especially to anyone with any knee problem, no matter how minor.

I have leg and back injuries an the pain associated with both. I've tried over 20 different brands of shoes over the past decade. Nothing compares to the MBT for pain relief. I can virtually walk all day pain-free in the MBT. The Shuguli GTX s the least-offensive MBT to the eye. It has a lower profile than the other MBT models and actually can be worn as a dress shoe. I bought the model in both black and brown. This is not the "best looking" shoe and it won't win any fashion awards, but it absolutely is by far the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. This includes tennis shoes. This model also makes me approx. 1" taller!
As for the toning and weight loss the manufacturer alludes to - I've found the shoes help tone my legs and my weight has remained the same since wearing these and only these shoes. Perhaps a more scientific study would warrant the manufacturer's claims? It's difficult to notice any difference and I do question the MBT weight loss claim.
The one and only issue I have with this brand in general is less lateral support than other brands of shoes. It's easy to roll your foot to the left or the right in these shoes if you are not careful. Not a huge issue, however. Just something to note as you get used to walking on this shoe.
I rate this 5 out of 5 even with the lateral support issue. Highly recommend this to anyone with leg or back pain.

These shoes not only feel like they were custom made for your feet, but they practically "cure" flat feet, make your lower legs feel awesome, and help your back because they make you have better posture. I totally recommend them.
